So many buzz phases now, strange times, uncertain times, keep safe, the list goes on and never so much as now we hear it everywhere, on the media and between each other. This unites us during this strange time but in different personal ways too. Mostly these times are perceived as negative with job loss, social isolation and so on, generally not good, but for some, it has been a time of change, rest, a reflection which can be positive for some. You hear about people having the time to learn new skills, read books they’d never normally get time to sit down and read, get on with gardening, and chores put off indoors for months or years, sorting cupboards or decorating. There has been a contrast of good and devastation in personal lives and business.
Personally, being self-employed it is caused by disruption financially and to my wellbeing. Having a business isn’t just about finance it’s the identity I have as a therapist, the interaction I have with my clients, many whom I’ve to know a long time, months or years, you develop a caring special relationship with clients, well I do it’s very personal, I’m working with another human being in a safe environment for them, they trust me professionally and sometimes confide in things they may not ever disclose with anyone else, I miss my clients like people and they miss seeing me, they are suffering mentally, physically and emotionally not having certain treatments they rely on to keep them going, I’m their support.
Most of us know we are social beings who need interaction with other humans and touch is vital, it produces the feel-good chemical oxytocin, the cuddle hormone. I’ve just ordered a body pillow this evening from QVC as I’m too missing close human contact, we are now really appreciating this basic human need more than ever, many are stressed and anxious, and the best remedy is some Much needed TLC.
ALWAYS A SILVER LINING
However, despite these difficulties not seeing my regular the client I have been pushed to work more online, I’ve not stopped working on promoting these services that I can do however restricted, I’ve set up the blogging which I wouldn’t have had time to do before, it’s a question of need so made the effort and took the time to set up which isn’t easy for a technophobe like myself, I must appear to be such an idiot to those who have to talk me through the process of setting anything up computer-related, it’s just not my thing I work well with people, not machines, but I’m learning and having to learn fast, so it’s been quite stressful but sometimes stress can be good to push us and motivate us to get us out of procrastination. I’m tired now as I write this I’ve had a busy day, my neck and shoulders hurt from lack of massage but I must write this to get this done today, yet want nothing more than to stop and chill with a comedy and possible whiskey, as I believe it’s medicinal to the amusement of those who don’t believe it when I’m serious about that, I did the research on google so can prove the positive results of a whiskey tipple, sometimes daily, I’m not talking about half a bottle yet the cream sherry got polished off very quickly I’m not ashamed to admit, it was delicious and compelling but I’m not becoming a lush during these times even though many appear to be with the jokes laughing at those who have succumbed as a coping mechanism to those not coping, or is it just an excuse to get drunk!!
THE UNEXPECTED BLOGGER
So here I am not blogging which would be unlikely in normal life being too busy getting on with ‘normal’ life, now we are told many times there will be a ‘new normal’ after all this during these uncertain time. The future is actually uncertain anyway as we can’t predict it but seems more so now, times have certainly changed, but it’s not always negative, there is I always believe something good from something seemingly bad, I’m now doing more online work which is what I always wanted as want to work further afield without the limitations of where I live on the couch surrounded by sea in the southeast of England.
So this is a new beginning, a forced change, who knows what may come of these strange times or whatever we call it, we are forced to review our lives, what have you gained from it ..?? What have you learnt.?? Discovered about yourself or life ...?? It is certainly not all bad with the planet recovering to a degree there are always positives if we look for them. Let us live for a better future, let us learn from this in the best way possible, at least we have a choice in how we think and grow.
